A National Character
Once upon a time, we were a United people, with national objects, symbols, that we protected, and a national character to preserve.
EXCERPT:
In 1989, our nation took a very wrong turn into becoming the “farce” that [George] Washington articulated. It was in that year the US Supreme Court decided in Texas v. Johnson, the desecration of the American Flag is constitutionally protected free speech and thus cannot be prohibited by federal or state statute. Interestingly enough, prior to 1989, 48 States and the District of Columbia maintained laws banning the desecration of our American flag. Title 4 of the United States Code, known as “The Flag Code,” establishes the requirements for the handling and displaying of our American Flag. I do not think it says anything about public burning or desecration.
Here we are today, those aligning themselves with Islamic terrorist organizations tearing down our national symbol, a direct attack on our national character, and setting it afire. Now we have domestic terrorists, anarchists, and those supporting criminal illegal immigrants openly burning our American flag while waving that of another country, and the symbol of an Islamic terrorist organization, Hamas. In my interpretation, that is not constitutionally protected freedom of speech; it is a direct assault on our national character and sedition.
Absolutely on point.

You are so correct.
I remember being in elementary school in West Des Moines, Iowa in the 1950’s & 60’s and daily pledging allegiance to OUR Flag 🇺🇸.
Also buying a 10 cent or 25 cent weekly Saving Bond stamp.
When your stamp book got $ 12.50, you went to the bank and got a $ 25 Savings Bond and waited for the Saving Bond to mature.
As a young Marine in the late 1960’s and 70’s, I bought a saving bond a month.
Every person knew someone that served in WW II and/or Korea. Many knew those that were without limbs and under headstones in National Cemeteries.
Yes, America has lost its National Character.
I fear only the intense hardship of a major, blood-letting war will put America back on course.
